"BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK," Sacramento Premiere a Benefit for VCA!!!

BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK
Opens the Crest Friday, April 22nd
Opening Night to Benefit Verge Center for the Arts

The Crest Theatre is proud to announce the exclusive engagement of Bill Cunningham New York starting on Friday, April 22 through Thursday, April 28. This is the latest film in the Verge Center for the Arts quarterly screening at the Crest.

Opening night, which benefits the Verge Center for the Arts, begins with a Trunk Show in the Crest Theatre lobby featuring local boutiques and designers including Bows and Arrows, Modaspia,Crimson & Clover, Thunderhorse, and Babyfloss, while DJ Hailey provides ambience in the main house followed by the premiere screening of BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK and a post screening panel discussion with fashion bloggers Bella Q (Sac Street Style), Lorena Beightler (Sac Cycle Chic) and Kari Shipman (Juniper James).

About the film-
“We all get dressed for Bill,” says Vogue editrix Anna Wintour. The “Bill” in question is
80+ New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. For decades, this Schwinn-riding
cultural anthropologist has been obsessively and inventively chronicling fashion
trends and high society charity soirées for the Times Style section in his columns “On
the Street” and “Evening Hours.” Documenting uptown fixtures (Wintour, Tom Wolfe,
Brooke Astor, David Rockefeller—who all appear in the film out of their love for Bill),
downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham’s enormous body of
work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place and individual
flair. In turn, Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny and often poignant
portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming
grace.

The Trunk Show begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Crest Theatre lobby. The film begins at 8:00 p.m. in the Crest’s main theatre followed immediately by the panel discussion. Tickets are $15 general, $12 for seniors and students. Advance tickets go on sale Friday April 1 at the Crest Theatre Box Office, Phono Select and tickets.com.

The Magic Christian with special guest Matias Bombal!

Our movie nights are really building momentum!!! MidMoMoNi is fast becoming a monthly get together of friends, film, and mulled wine. You don't want to miss this month's screening of Terry Southern's "The Magic Christian!!!"

Who amongst us can resist an all-star cast? If your answer is no one then you are right! 'The Magic Christian" has the queen mother of all star casts beginning with Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers in the starring roles. From there one can trip their way through the likes of Raquel Welch, Richard Attenborough, Roman Polanski, Christopher Lee, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and of course Yul Brynner.... in drag! Written by Terry Southern of Dr. Stranglove, Barbarella, and Easy Rider fame, this charming film is a playful cinematic time capsule.

In carrying on in this all-star theme VCA has contacted the one and onlyMatias Bombal to join us in screening this fun film. VCA is very lucky to have Bombal in the house for this screening! Bombal's early days at The Crest Theatre paved the way for him to go on to host a Sunday film program on Channel 58, more recently Bombal completed a three year stint as the host of Classic Jazz and Swing on CPR.

See you at the movies!
