The Ali Youssefi Project was created in memory of Ali by his family, in partnership with the Verge Center for the Arts. Ali Youssefi was a humanitarian and deep lover of art. He was dedicated to harnessing the power of a community through its people and this project aims to bridge his passions with his philanthropic spirit. We are humbled to honor Ali and the incredible work of his life this way.

Ali Youssefi was a proud Sacramentan who loved giving back to his city and supporting others in their success. The Ali Youssefi Project will honor him by providing people with an opportunity to participate in community and dedicate themselves to their passion.

About the Residencies

The WAL Residency

The Warehouse Artist Lofts were developed by Ali Youssefi to provide working artists an affordable place to live and create art in the heart of Sacramento. WAL is a mixed-use, transit-oriented community for Sacramento-area artists. Located in the Historic R Street district, WAL is close to many art-related businesses and galleries, including the WAL Residency artist studio at Verge Center for the Arts.

The WAL Residency is a 3-month, live-in residency with access to an artist work studio at Verge. WAL Artists in Residence will receive a $500 monthly stipend and will be invited to participate in the WAL community’s First Friday Open Studios. A travel stipend of $500 is available. The residency will culminate in a group residency exhibition at Verge Gallery.

The WAL Artist Residency is open to artists nationwide, at least 35 miles away from Sacramento.

Please note: Applicants for the WAL residency will need to provide proof of permanent residence beyond a 35-mile radius of Sacramento. WAL applicants are subject to background check upon residency acceptance.

The VERGE Residency

Verge Center for the Arts is the leading cultural institution in the Sacramento region for contemporary art and ideas. Their mission is to extend the dialogue about contemporary art to the central valley. Verge supports this mission by providing vital resources to local career and emerging artists as well as offering arts education opportunities for youth and adults.

The Verge Residency provides a 6-month studio space at Verge. The Verge resident will receive a $500 monthly stipend and will be invited to participate in Verge programing. The residency will culminate in a group residency exhibition at Verge Gallery.
